Weekly Writing Prompts #3 – Dreams, Oldies, and The Supernatural

Welcome to Weekly Writing Prompts, a curated trio of prompts designed to stir your creativity.

Whether you’re writing fiction or pulling from personal experience, feel free to share it all.

This week’s set blends surreal imagery, nostalgic detail, and a touch of the otherworldly. Write one, write all — and let your imagination wander in new directions.

Prompt 1 – Dreams / Surreal

You wake up inside a dream, but something feels different this time — the dream seems aware of you.

What happens when your imagination starts shaping itself around you?

📌 Lean into the uncanny — is it peaceful, strange, or unsettling?

Prompt 2 – Oldies / Nostalgia

A young writer looking in the mirror under a dim lit lamp.
An old song begins playing unexpectedly — on the radio, in a café, or from a forgotten vinyl.

Why does it matter so much, and what memory does it bring back?

📌 Use sensory detail — the sound, the mood, the feelings it stirs.

Prompt 3 – Supernatural / Mystery

One evening, you sense something watching you from the shadows — but instead of fear, you feel comfort.

Who or what is it? Why are they here now?

📌 Play with tone — is this presence protective, mischievous, or quietly haunting?

Reminder

You can take these in any direction — literal, metaphorical, real, or imagined.

Set a timer for however long you’d like. Let the words come, even if they arrive unsure or strange.

There’s no wrong way to write.
